The conservation area is managed by Chilworth Conservation Limited (CCL). The purpose of this newly formed company is to retain the educational and recreational functions of the site with minimal disturbance to its unique habitats and rare species.
Company directors include a representative from the University, the Science Park and Chilworth Manor and will also have close links with the Chilworth Community so that various perspectives are considered when it comes to decision making.
CCL is a company with charitable status so will be able to reap the benefits of annual grants and sponsorship. Funds will be used to employ a general manager to coordinate specialist contractors, volunteers and fundraising activities. The company will oversee specific projects like the delivery of the Woodland Management Plan, the restoration and maintenance of the Arboretum, the Ecology Meadow and the Ornamental Lake. Priority will be given to areas that are potentially unsafe or that have been neglected, especially along boundaries and near the deep water of the lake.
